Expanded Senior Care Benefit

You Qualify for Senior Care if you are:

  • 65 years of age and older.
  • a resident of North Carolina.
  • your annual income for 2004 is less than 250% of the federal poverty level which is
    • $23,275 or less if you are single, divorced or widowed, or
    • $31,225 or less if you are married.
  • You have no other prescription drug insurance including Medicaid (note: If your health coverage is through Medicare + Choice, a Medigap policy or the Veteran's Administration, you may still qualify for the program).

What is the Senior Care Benefit?

Senior Care now pays up to $1200 of covered prescription drug costs per benefit period. You pay a co-pay of 5% - 10%. There is no limit on covered drugs based on diagnosis.

The first benefit period is from September 1 through December 31 of 2004. The second benefit period is January 1 through December 31, 2005. Any of the $1200 benefit balance left over as of December 31, 2004 can be carried over and added to the $1200 benefit available on January 1, 2005.
